Timeline 1900

1900

Thomas Lovejoy founds Lovejoy Tool Works, a manufacturer of tooling and machinery for the railroad and steel industries. The original facility is located on Ohio Street in downtown Chicago.

1912

W.H. Dangel purchases Lovejoy.
Timeline 1927

1927

The patent for the Jaw coupling is purchased from Louis Ricefield. This is the reason the original Jaw couplings were referred to as "LR" couplings.

1930

The company moves to Lake Street in Chicago, Illinois.
Timeline 1946

1946

The company begins to manufacture Universal Joints. Merlin W. Dangel serves as President of the company until 1964.

1947

The Variable Speed Pulley line is purchased, a major acquisition for the company.
Timeline 1960

1960

The South Haven, Michigan plant is built and the VSP operations move to that facility.

1962

Lovejoy begins to manufacture the Uniflex line of couplings.
Timeline 1963

1963

Lovejoy begins manufacturing the SAGA line of couplings.
Timeline 1964

1964

C. Patrick Hennessy serves as President of the company until 1984.
Timeline 1970

1970

Company headquarters are moved to the current Downers Grove, Illinois location.
Timeline 1971

1971

Lovejoy begins manufacturing and marketing torsional couplings.
 

1972

Pat Hennessy incorporates the not-for-profit Vibration Institute, to allow individuals from any industry to exchange data about measuring and analyzing vibration.
Timeline 1978

1978

A partnership with ROSTA is formed, allowing Lovejoy to market and manufacture their products which incorporate elastomeric elements.
Timeline 1984

1984

Mike Hennessy becomes CEO of the company.
Timeline 1985

1985

S-Flex couplings are added to Lovejoy's product offering. The patent for the Deltaflex coupling is purchased.
Timeline 1993

1993

Lovejoy again expands its product line to include Sier-Bath® couplings and motion control couplings.
Timeline 1995

1995

A line of Curved Jaw couplings, the European standard, is developed by Lovejoy.
Timeline 1996

1996

Lovejoy introduces an all-metal, flexible Grid coupling.
Timeline 1998

1998

Lovejoy introduces the Jaw In-Shear coupling.
Lloyds Register Quality

1999

Lovejoy becomes ISO 9001 certified.
Timeline 2000

2000

A line of Disc couplings is developed, and Lovejoy celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Timeline 2001

2001

Lovejoy expands international focus with Lovejoy Europe which includes European based manufacturing, sales, and customer service support. Worldwide marketing of torsional coupling line begins.
Timeline 2003

2003

Lovejoy creates powder metal affiliate, Lovejoy Sintered Solutions. Lovejoy also announces an international expansion into the hydraulic component market with the joint-venture Raja-Lovejoy. The Lovejoy Coupling Configurator is made available to the public, and a next generation version of Lovejoy's Jaw In-Shear coupling is released.
Timeline Hydraulics

2009

Lovejoy creates hydraulic affiliate, Lovejoy Hydraulics, offering a comprehensive line of technology leading pump-motor mounts, oil/water coolers, and hydraulic reservoirs.
